School Bus Safety Reminder as Classes Resume

School starts Wednesday in Texarkana Texas, and the Texarkana Texas Police Department is reminding drivers to watch for school buses.

Under Texas law, drivers must stop when a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing, whether approaching from behind or from the opposite direction.

The exception is when traffic is separated by a physical median or barrier. A turn lane or painted median does not count.

Passing a stopped school bus can result in a $645 fine in Texarkana.

Police are urging drivers to slow down, pay attention, and help keep students safe.
