Commissioners voted to move forward with a formal decommission hearing for Shane Dustin Johnston, a former deputy with the Miller County Sheriff’s Office. The action could lead to the permanent loss of his law enforcement certification in Arkansas.
Johnston, 44, is facing a felony theft charge after investigators say he used a county-issued K-9 credit card for 90 unauthorized personal purchases totaling nearly $9,800. Johnston has claimed the charges were accidental, but investigators cited the volume of transactions as concerning.
Johnston has also faced past arrests, civil judgments, and tax liens. He was released on a $15,000 bond and is represented by Texarkana attorney Shorty Barrett.
